Ending the War

The Soul Devourer - the entity that feeds on the Soul War - looms before you, a writhing mass of consumed souls. But before you can reach it, a figure blocks your path. Azrakael. The Fallen One. Again. "Hello, mortal," he says, his voice like cracking ice. "Did you think dispersing my spirit in the Citadel would be enough? Death is not the end here. The Corruptor remade me - as a general in this war. I command the dead. And your friend Tomas? He's mine now." He wears void-armor fused with the souls of a thousand warriors. He is stronger than before - stronger than his spirit form, stronger than his living form. This is Azrakael the Soul General. You fight him with everything you have, and as you strike the final blow, he laughs. "Kill me again, mortal. I'll come back. I always come back. The Corruptor doesn't let go of its servants." He dissolves into void. You press on to the Devourer. As you destroy it, the trapped souls surge free - including Tomas. But he's been consumed too deeply. His spirit flickers, fading. "I always knew there was something below that cellar," he says, his voice barely a whisper. "I just didn't know it would follow me here. Go on, brave one. Finish what you started. In the temple cellar... in the necropolis... in the void. I'll be watching. Or... I won't. I suppose that's the point." He fades. The Captain of the Dead salutes you as he too begins to dissolve. "The Soul Reaver Blade will form from the freed souls. It cuts the boundary to the Primal Forge below. Go. The descent continues. And mortal... I'm sorry about your friend."
